Six and a half years into our Ten year Remodel

Dated sandstone marker
We've always enjoyed old homes and this is our third one. Our first was a 1912 bungalow in the Washington Park area of Denver. Our second was a 1915 bungalow in North Ogden, Utah. Our current home was purchased in 2004 and is located in West Bountiful, Utah and it was the only one that required extensive renovation.

The house had been abandoned the previous winter and the former owner had failed to drain the copper lines that provided hot water heat throughout the house so there were scores of ruptured pipes. Her former husband was able to get the home out of foreclosure and prepare it for sale but at the time we purchased it there was no heating or cooling system in the house or hot water.

Previous owners had attempted to "modernize" the house in a series of misguided and poorly done efforts. Over the course of this blog I will share the efforts we've made to restore our home to some of its former beauty - done on a budget but hopefully done with quality as much as possible.

To anyone reading this we welcome your comments.

The first photo shows the date of construction on a piece of sandstone underneath the front room window - note the reversed 9. The other photo is the house as it appeared the summer of 2004 shortly before our purchase.

Our Victorian - little did we know.
